Frequently Asked Questions
What is EXIF data and why does it matter?
EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) data is metadata automatically embedded in photos by your camera or smartphone. It includes camera settings, date/time, and often GPS location. This data can reveal where you live, work, or vacation, making it a privacy concern when sharing photos online.
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No! All processing happens entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your photos never leave your device, and we never see or store any of your images or metadata. This is a privacy-first tool designed to keep your data completely private.
What file formats are supported?
Our EXIF viewer supports JPG/JPEG, PNG, HEIC, and most RAW formats including CR2 (Canon), NEF (Nikon), ARW (Sony), RAF (Fujifilm), and more. The tool uses the exifr library which has excellent format coverage.
Can I view metadata from multiple photos at once?
Yes! Check out our Batch Metadata Operations tool to process multiple photos simultaneously and export metadata as CSV or JSON.
How do I remove EXIF data from my photos?
Use our Complete Metadata Remover tool to strip all EXIF, IPTC, and XMP data from photos. You can also use the Privacy Scanner to quickly check and remove GPS location data only.
