Privacy

A photo privacy tool that uploaded your photos would be a bad joke. ExifProbe doesn't.

Your photos

Photos you open are read by JavaScript running in your browser tab (using the open-source exifr parser and our own file-block code). They are never sent to our server or anyone else. Cleaned and edited files are created on your device and downloaded from memory. Close the tab and they're gone.

Optional features that use the network

  • Map: only when you press "Show on map", the photo's coordinates (not the photo) are sent to OpenStreetMap to load map tiles. The Google, Apple and OpenStreetMap buttons open those services in a new tab with the coordinates in the link.
  • AI explainer: only when you press "Explain it", the text list of metadata tags is sent to our server and passed to an AI model through Vercel AI Gateway to write the explanation. GPS coordinates are withheld unless you tick the box, and even then they are rounded to about 1 km. The image is never sent. We don't store the request.

Stored on your device

The remover remembers two settings (keep orientation, keep colour profile) in your browser's localStorage under keys starting with exifprobe:. Nothing else is stored.

Analytics

We use Ahrefs Web Analytics to count page visits. It is cookieless and doesn't see your photos or anything you type.
