Frequently Asked Questions

What does the privacy scanner check for?
The scanner checks if your photos contain GPS location data embedded in the EXIF metadata. This includes exact latitude/longitude coordinates, altitude, and sometimes direction information. Photos with GPS data show a red warning, while safe photos show green.
Can I remove GPS data without affecting image quality?
Yes! Removing GPS metadata has zero impact on image quality. We only strip the hidden text data embedded in the file header - the actual photo pixels remain completely unchanged. Your image will look identical but without the location privacy risk.
Do all smartphones add GPS data to photos?
Most modern smartphones add GPS data by default if location services are enabled. However, some apps (like Instagram and Facebook) strip this data when you upload. Our scanner helps you check before sharing on platforms that might not remove it automatically.
What happens after I remove GPS data?
After removal, you can download the cleaned photo. The new file will be identical to the original but without GPS coordinates in the metadata. You can verify this by uploading the cleaned photo back to our scanner - it will show green (safe).
Is this the same as turning off location services?
No - this tool cleans photos that already contain GPS data. To prevent GPS data from being added in the first place, you need to disable location services for your camera app in your phone settings. Use this tool to clean existing photos.
